The world Post day is celebrated annually on October 9 in anniversary of the World Postal Union (UPU) which was created this day in 1874 in the capital of Switzerland Bern. The official statement about carrying out the World Post day was heard from a tribune of the Congress of UPU which took place in 1969 in Tokyo, Japan. Since then the World Post day is annually celebrated in many countries of the world.
The purpose of the World Post day consists in promotion of a role of mail sector in everyday life of people and its contribution to social and economic development of the country. The member states of UPU celebrating this Day develop programs of actions for extension of informing the public, including through media, about activities of their national mail services.
Every year more than 150 countries of the world hold different events devoted to the World Post day. In some countries the World Post day is the day off. Many mail departments use this opportunity for implementation or advance of new mail products and services. Some mail departments also take an opportunity and carry out in the World Post day of an awards ceremony of the caused the most stir employees.
In many countries philatelic exhibitions are held, releases of new brands and their special labels will be organized. Besides, in post offices and other public places exhibitions of the posters devoted to the World Post day are held. In post offices, centers and the museums, there take place Open Days, conferences, seminars and practical works, and also cultural, sporting and other entertaining events. Many mail administrations turn out special souvenir products.
